This nine-day intensive immersion into Wisconsin’s cultural communities provided teachers with indoor and outdoor opportunities to explore our state’s local cultures with curriculum in mind. Our route began and ended in Madison and traversed the entire state. Stops included:
- Visiting sites that were part of a 4th/5th grade’s Park Street Cultural Tour in Madison such as the Italian Workman’s Club
- Touring the Ho-Chunk Nation’s bison ranch in Muscoda
- Learning about community efforts to maintain Prairie Moon Sculpture Garden in Fountain City
- Hiking to logging areas in Chequamegon/Nicolet National Forest with NFS rangers to learn about land use management
- Sampling traditional Slovakian foods with the Moquah Homemakers
- Walking through Milwaukee’s southside with artist Juan Flores to tour the murals he created
